Right now on the farm, we’re well underway with one of the most exciting times of the year — calving season. Each day brings new arrivals, and we’re delighted to welcome the next generation of our cattle herd to Old Hurst. Watching these little ones find their feet (quite literally!) never gets old. They are absolutely adorable, full of curiosity and already showing off plenty of character.
Our herd is wonderfully diverse, and calving season is a perfect reminder of that. We have cattle from several different breeds including Belgium Blue, Aberdeen Angus, Simmental, South Devons, and Limousin. Each breed brings its own strengths, traits and charm to the farm, adding to the richness of our cattle family. And of course, we can’t forget our beloved Highland cows, with their iconic fluffy coats and gentle nature... always a favourite amongst visitors.
As the season continues, there will be plenty more new faces joining us. It’s a special time that reflects the heart of what we do here at Old Hurst: caring for our animals, supporting healthy and sustainable farming and sharing the journey with all of you. Stay tuned for more updates as our calving season progresses!
